Design Party Numero Uno- by desha, with a lower-case d

The ladies and I had such a fun time last night, designing our little hearts out!

I learned a few important things from my first-ever design party:

1. Don't need so much food- people are way too busy designing.
2. Don't even need so much wine!  This was a pleasant surprise:)
3. I offered demonstrations on two necklaces and gave the ladies their choice.  Next time, I will demonstrate one piece, and let the ladies vary it as they please.  This means less up-front cost for me, as well as less wait-time for the gals.
4. As I continue on this venture, I will plan to have design party "hosts."  My hosts will have the party at the location of their choosing, as well as provide whatever they desire in the area of food and beverages.  My host will get a free piece out of the desha collection, and of course all of the guests will get 20% off their total desha purchase!
5. I bring the goods.  That means tools, design supplies, etc.  I had given the ladies a choice for this party, but everyone opted to use my materials anyway, which I think is less confusing.
6. Someday I'd love to have a design boutique- a real, live storefront with a section for shopping and a lovely, plush area for designing.  Wouldn't that be fun???  A girl can dream...
7. I need a designated picture-taker.  Perhaps the lady who volunteers will get a free gift!  As you might guess, I took no pictures.  I think a few of my guests did though, so I will post as they come.
8. Christine is such a doll for being my assistant design instructor!  What a duo.  I'm not sure I could have managed without her- it would have taken a lot longer.

So, here are the two pieces I taught:

And of course each of the gals got a little gift:

And finally, here are some little goodies I've been working on.  The brown one I made originally to be a Kindle case.  But really, it 's super cute as regular ol clutch.

Happy Saturday folks!  It's a beautiful day here in Naples, and I am off to enjoy it!

Paper Valentine Heart Garland

In honor of V-Day, I created these paper hearts.  And I must say, they turned out pretty darn ca-yute!

My plan is to string them together for a heartfelt garland:)

Treasury Tuesday: My Bathroom has the Blues!

I've decided to add a little... repetition. predictability. formality. pattern. format to the blog.  And it is called, Treasury Tuesday!  I really hope no one else has already thought of that, or I might get a sweet little note saying, "hey! Stop taking my ideas!"

There are so many creative and talented Etsians out there, I thought I should dedicate a day to sharing the beauty.  For today, I decided on a peaceful array of blues and whites, since I re-did my bathroom this weekend in those colors (pictures to follow...)!

Here's a sneak-peek, but check out the rest on Etsy:

Oh Joy! is a fantastic blog that I have been meaning to link to before, but I happen to be a bit scatter-brained, so it just hasn't happened!  They have absolutely charming photography along with excellent style and design ideas.

Anyway, go take a look if you haven't already.  And by the way,

Eat, Drink and Design!

Hear ye, hear ye!  The long-awaited (if only by me) design party shall commence on Friday January 28th at 6pm.  Where, you ask?  At mi casa/ studio in sunny Naples, FL!  If you are in or near Naples that day, swing on by!  It will be loads of fun!

We will be designing two necklaces inspired by a couple that I found on the Periwinkle Shop blog.  One is very dainty with a pearl cluster, the other is a little funkier with multiple chain strands.  The goal is just to eat, drink and design!  Hey- that's a good tag line: "Eat, Drink and Design!"

Yes yes folks, should be a good ol' time.  I spend most of my "design time" alone with Bravo on the TV.  I figure it might be best to surround myself with lots of beautiful, talented ladies instead.

On another note, I am in the process of converting the second "catch-all" bedroom into a studio.  It has already been my studio- along with every other room in the condo, but I got a sewing machine for Christmas!!!!  Which calls for a little upgrade...  I need a table despite how much I adore sitting on the floor and spreading fabric, thread, yarn, needles, beads, chains, headpins, eyepins, jump rings, crimpers, plyers and more allllllll over the carpet.  I've been using my dining room table, but lemme tell ya, every time I have people over, it's a scramble to get everything stashed in the studio.  Any table suggestions?

This little space inspires me...

Crafters, Tutorials and Blogs, Oh My!

Over the past month or so, I have been inundated with spectacular ideas- so much so that I can barely keep track of my "things to make" list.  It just keeps... growing.  First, The Purl Bee almost gave me heart failure with this doozie: The Purl Bee's best of 2010.  I especially (passionately) love the pixie dust blanket and Hawaiian pillows.

And then of course Alisa Burke blew my mind with her creative way to transform holiday decor.

Her creativity is painfully mind-blowing.  She is a brilliant artist who makes lots of nifty creations and then shares them with her admiring readers!

And of course, as usual, EmersonMade is at it again, giving things away and astounding us with their fabulous flowers, bags, belts, clothes and oh-so-much more.  In fact, Young Sophisticates is hosting an EM giveaway!!!  Hurry, go sign up!  Just buy me something if you win;)  (Kidding.  Mostly.)

That's all for now, folks!  Happy crafting and shopping!

Break Blog

Ahh, blogging on the lunch break... I have been a crazy lady lately (what's new?), running around like a headless chicken. Hence, I blog at lunch from my NEW smart phone! (you may applaud now, welcoming me to the 21st century.) I am eager to provide you with lots of links to some fabulous blogs and posts that I've run across lately, but that will have to wait until I'm nice and cozy and at my own computer. In the meantime, I am working on the SPRING LINE!!! That's right folks, get excited (come on, for me?)!

In addition to the usual jewelry and flowers, I am adding a couple other things, like bags and home decor.

I'm not nearly done, but I've finished a couple small projects and am storing tons more in the noggin.  Here's a peak (excuse the poor photography, these were also taken on the new phone):

AND, in addition to the new line, I am scheduling the long-awaited design party for two or three weeks from now!  VERY excited about this- more details to come.

Happy Tuesday!
